Tetris
Tetris is a classic falling-block puzzle game implemented within the Krang PlayArena framework.
The objective is to strategically place descending tetrominoes to complete horizontal lines and prevent the stack from reaching the top of the board.
The game combines spatial awareness, timing precision, and progressive speed scaling under session-based conditions.
Gameplay Overview
Tetris is played on a vertical grid consisting of 10 columns and 20 rows.
- tetrominoes fall from the top of the board
- pieces can be moved left or right
- pieces can be rotated before locking
- completed horizontal lines are removed
- the game ends when a new piece can no longer spawn
Each session increases in difficulty as more lines are cleared.
Tetromino System
The game uses seven standard tetromino types.
Pieces are distributed using a balanced randomization system to ensure fair gameplay and prevent streak-based randomness.
Level Progression
Difficulty scales dynamically based on cleared lines.
- every 8 cleared lines increase the level
- higher levels increase falling speed
- gravity accelerates progressively
- minimum drop interval is enforced to maintain playability
As level increases, reaction time becomes more critical.
Scoring System
Scoring is based on the number of lines cleared simultaneously.
- 50 points for clearing 1 line
- 100 points for clearing 2 lines
- 200 points for clearing 3 lines
- 300 points for clearing 4 lines (Tetris)
The total score is multiplied by the current level.
Hard Drop Bonus
- Performing a Hard Drop grants 10 additional points
- The bonus is awarded upon instant piece lock
- The Hard Drop bonus is independent of line clears
All final scores are validated server-side.
Drop Mechanics
Tetris supports two drop behaviors:
Soft Drop
- accelerates the falling speed
- allows controlled positioning
- does not provide additional scoring by default
Hard Drop
- instantly locks the piece at the lowest valid position
- grants a fixed 10 point bonus
- enables faster play and higher score efficiency
Controls
Tetris supports both desktop and mobile input methods.
Desktop (Browser)
- ← / → move piece
- ↑ rotate piece
- ↓ soft drop
- Spacebar hard drop
Touch Devices
- Left / Right virtual joystick move piece
- Up gesture rotate
- Down gesture soft drop
- Double down gesture hard drop
Controls are automatically adapted to the device type.
Session Rules
Tetris operates within standard PlayArena session constraints.
- sessions are time-limited
- gameplay events are validated server-side
- client-side score manipulation has no effect
- session results are finalized at game end
If participation requirements are not fulfilled, the game may run in Trial Mode with limited duration.
Integration with PlayArena Systems
Tetris is fully integrated into the PlayArena infrastructure.
- Play Credits may be required for participation
- validated scores may contribute to challenges
- reward multipliers are handled server-side
- KRANG balances do not influence gameplay mechanics
All integrations follow platform-wide session and validation rules.
Summary
Tetris is a precision-based puzzle game focused on spatial reasoning, timing, and strategic placement under increasing speed conditions.
Its deterministic mechanics ensure fairness, while session-based validation guarantees competitive integrity within the Krang PlayArena ecosystem.
